Within the village of Cómpeta it is possible to organise tours to vineyards, walking tours, boat trips, hire of cycles, jeeps, kayaks and many many more activities. We recommend that you pay a visit to the tourist office on the edge of the village by the bus stop, they have a wealth of knowledge and speak many languages.
The Natural Park, Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama is a large nature reserve that connects many villages via hiking trails. Various walking routes start from the villages in this nature park. The many routes are challenging, but also doable for the inexperienced hiker.
Right through the area are the long-distance hiking trails GR-242 (80 km) and the GR-249 (Gran Senda de Málaga, 650 km), a long tour that goes around the entire province and in (day) stages of about 20 km is divided. Hikers who want to walk part of the route will also get their money's worth. In the villages of Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno, the El Saltillo hiking trail is recommended, a counterpart to the popular and spectacular Caminito del Rey (Málaga) hiking trail. Also popular is the ascent of the highest mountain La Maroma (8.5 km). A popular walk among holidaymakers is the route at Nerja along the River Chillar.
You can of course also walk straight from the casa.
Hike to The Lost Village / El Acebuchal. Beautiful, accessible, fairly flat route in the mountains with sometimes a view of the sea. Start is 30 meters from the exit Casa Calmante at the green sign. You walk on a gravel path for about 90 minutes. You can go around the Rio Torrox, so you do not have to get wet feet. At the Lost Village you can have lunch or a drink at the restaurant Bar El Acebuchal. Nice to walk through the small village. Route back is the same path.
Costa del Sol / Costa Tropical, the coast of La Axarquía has a number of fine seaside resorts. These are not massive and often only visited by the locals. Nerja, Torrox Costa and Torre del Mar are the best known. Nerja has somewhat smaller beaches and will be full earlier on summer days. The beaches of Torrox Costa and Torre del Mar are a bit more extensive, you can always find a beach bed here. For example, are you going to Torre del Mar? End your beach day at one of the many chiringuitos. These are restaurants on the beach with a boat where delicious fish is grilled. An absolute must!
Because of the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara there are, more East of Nerja, no long white sandy beaches here, but there are beautiful wild cliffs and beautiful sandy beaches in the coves, including those at Maro and further east in the direction of Almuñécar,
picturesque beaches like Playa de la Cala el Cañuelo
en Playa Cantarriján.
In the area you can take various cycling trips with your mountain bike or racing bike. Great route through the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama. During the tour you can enjoy spectacular views. Some are challenging routes with many climbs.
The mountain road GR-420 from Granada to the Sierra Nevada is quite an experience. The winding road is Europe's highest mountain road, where 14 mountain villages are located. The ski slopes of Pradollano (Sierra Nevada), is one of the leading winter sports resorts of the continent. From November to well into April, the Sierra Nevada is an excellent winter sports area.
